Is growing an email list driving you insane?
Having an email list is great, but is it necessary?
You have probably heard it more than once: Grow your email list, GROW YOUR EMAIL LIST!
Why so much talk about an email list? It has to do with having ownership over your followers. If LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, etc. shut down or the algorithm changed, then you would still be able to continue with business as usual.
So the real question is: Is it worth it to grow an email marketing list just to say you have 1,000 or 10,000 or 100,000 email subscribers?
Is bigger always better? According to Sharon Hurley Hall, having a list of non-engaged followers is not worth the effort of growing the email list.
In fact having a big list can become an unnecessary expense because you are paying to hold on to unengaged subscribers that will actually never open your email.
What you will find inside:
✔️ Benefits of reducing your subscriber numbers
✔️ Strategies to reduce the email list
✔️ How your health is affected by all of the email subscribers
Benefits of reducing your subscriber numbers:
The hard truth is that only a small percentage of subscribers are actually interested in what you have to say. Your email list is mostly made up of people your offered a "freebie" to and they never plan to engage with you again, or there was a deal they wanted and had to supple their email in-order to receive the deal.
Choosing to actively reduce your subscriber numbers especially the inactive, bot, and disengaged users comes with benefits:
1. Improves engagement rates
2. Boost your channel analytics
3. Helps the algorithm identify your audience that is more aligned with you
Strategies to reduce the email list:
Reducing your email list regularly helps to ensure those receiving your email are actually interested in what you have to say or offer.
Ways to reduce your email is:
1. Send a re-engagement email
(They are asked to reply if they want to continue receiving emails from you and if they do not reply, then they will be removed from the list)
2. Simply remove those that have not opened your emails in 6-12 months
3. Remove emails that bounce back
How your health is affected by the email list:
When your email list is to big to properly manage; it affects your overall health.
You become frustrated at the lack of engagement, you become doubtful whether anyone truly cares about your offer and you start to lose the drive to keep going.
How this shows up in your health:
1. You lose sleep or your not getting restful sleep
2. You sacrifice exercising
3. You no longer pay attention to what you are eating or how much you're eating
These things happen because you are so busy trying to stay engaged to an audience that is not interested in you. This is a recipe for burnout and self sabotage. This type of behavior puts you at an increased risk for developing hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.
In Conclusion:
Reducing your email list will increase your engagement and decrease your stress. It will give you time back and will allow you to continue to be creative. Focusing on your health as the number 1 priority makes all the other business decision come about easier.
I have personally worked with professional women who put in so much work on their business or career that they have become discouraged and tired. They are unaware their health has been impacted negatively due to all the stress. Once they allowed their mind and body time to heal, then their business decisions became easier, and life was happier.
